Karen Marlene Kreger, 76, of Dixon, died Tuesday, December 25, 2012, at Serenity Hospice & Home, Oregon. She was an electrical inspector for Sundstrand in Rockford for 34 years prior to her retirement in 1999.
Karen was born December 27, 1935, in Compton, IL, the daughter of Curtis and Evelyn (Walters) Brickey. She married Robert Kreger on October 6, 1956, in Dixon. Karen was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Dixon. Family was the most important thing to Karen. She enjoyed working outside, gardening, birding, walking the dog, reading, and working on puzzles.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Kreger of Dixon; two sons, Michael (Deborah) Kreger of West Lafayette, IN, Mark (Joyce) Kreger of Dixon; one daughter, Diane (Robert) Yeoward of Rock Falls; one brother, Keith Brickey of Bloomingdale; three sisters, Betty Bay of Dixon, Kathy (Gary) Gerdes of Clinton, IA, Peggy (John) Dowding of Dixon; five grandchildren, Jessica and Jennifer Yeoward, Tiffany (Brian) Willstead, Jarrett (Lora) Ludwig, Amanda Kreger; six great grandchildren, Brody, Ayden, and Kyler Willstead, Abby Johnson, Zaiden Petersen, and Kelsie Ludwig.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Larry and Lowell Brickey.
Visitation will be from 2 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, December 28, 2012, at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home, Dixon, with family present from 2 – 4:00 and 6 – 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, at the funeral home, with Herbert Youngren of Grace United Methodist Church, Dixon, officiating.
Memorials have been established to Serenity Hospice & Home in Oregon and Kreider Services.
