James Heath Gridley, 82, of Dixon, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2012, at his home. He worked for Eller Willey Block Company for 35 years, prior to his retirement.
James was born August 28, 1930, in Morrison, IL, the son of James Guy and Bessie (Heath) Gridley. He graduated from Morrison High School in 1948. He married Ellen V. Rosenow on October 15, 1950, in Morrison. Jim was very active in the Al Morrison Baseball League while his children were growing up. Later in life Jim was an avid bowler and loved to pitch horseshoes.
Survivors include his wife, Ellen V. Gridley; two sons, John (Lonnie) Gridley, Warren (Kimberly) Gridley; two daughters, Mary (Dean) Vaniter, Ruth (Butch) Musgrave; one daughter-in-law, Kathy Gridley; one sister, Lois Callahan; 12 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Paul and Frank Gridley; two sisters, Verne Flynn and Eleanor Hoerler.
Visitation will be from 2 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, October 19, 2012, at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home, Dixon, with family present from 2 – 4:00 and 6 – 8:00 p.m. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, at First United Methodist Church, Dixon, with the Rev. Mike Jones, pastor, officiating. Private burial of cremains will be at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison.
